A friendly cafe-bar, live music and art venue in the heart of James North arts district. Great acoustic music, in the roots, folk, jazz, world beat and inventive mode. We have a baby grand piano, a sound system. Licensed under the AGCO for 60, cafe tables and bar stools, micro-brew on tap, espresso, light meals [all-ages venue]. Art installations on the lower level.

Hamilton Fringe BYOV at Artword: Langston Hughes vs Joe McCarthy (Artword Theatre) and The Lost Years (Renurg Productions)
Thursday, June 20 to Saturday, June 29, 2017, at various times, $10.July 20 to 29, 2017.
Artword Theatre participates in the 2017 Hamilton Fringe Theatre Festival with a timely and sensitive piece of documentary theatre, Langston Hughes vs. Joe McCarthy, written and directed by Ronald Weihs and produced by Judith Sandiford. Dancer-choreographer-actor Learie Mc Nicolls plays the role of Langston Hughes and character actor Howard Jerome performs as The Interrogator. In addition, the 2017 Hamilton Fringe Theatre Festival at Artword Artbar Bring-Your-Own-Venue features The Lost Years: a Renurg Production by Peter Gruner, directed by Al French, performed by Deb Dagenais and Peter Gruner.

Singer-songwriter Jeffery Straker returns to Artword Artbar with his show Inside the Songs. His guests for the evening include AndreasBrian Andreas & Jennifer Lockman and the duo Shelley Gordon & Jordan Fox.

Where Have All The Folk Songs Gone
Thursday July 6, 2017, at 8 pm, $15.
Where Have All The Folk Songs Gone returns to Artword Artbar. The 60s Folk Revival sing-along concert features Sue Peters (vocals),  Michelle Rumball (vocals), Dwight Peters (vocals, 6 & 12 string guitars) and Tony Laviola (double bass). Imagine an evening that transforms the Artword Artbar into one of the 1960s coffeehouses of Yorkville or Greenwich Village. Song-sheets are provided. 

Latin American Peña, w. Rosy Cervantes, music & poetry
Friday July 7, 2017, at 8 pm. $10.
A Latin American Peña, an evening of music and poetry. Featured performer is Rosy Cervantes, lead singer of the band La Sana Rabia. Born in Cuernavaca, Rosy has an extensive career in Mexico where she founded La Sana Rabia in 2002, performing in blues festivals, tv shows and major venues all over the country. Her CD Lo blanco y lo negro (The dark and the light) shows her talents as a blues singer and songwriter. 

Jazz w. the Scott Taplay Group
Saturday July 8, 2017, at 8 pm, $10.
Jazz with the Scott Taplay Group: guitarist Scott Taplay, Jonas Pearson Paavola electric bass and Victor Agrippa alto sax. This jazz trio performs a modern take on jazz standards and a few originals

Monday July 10, 2017, at 7:30 pm, $15. SPECIAL SHOW!
Matapa World Festival Series presents the WÖR band from Belgium, on a festival tour in Ontario.  The musicians: Fabio Di Meo, baritone & soprano saxophone; Bert Ruymbeek accordion; Jeroen Goegebuer violin; Pieterjan Van Kerckhoven bagpipes, musette, soprano saxophone; Jonas Scheys guitar. Back to the 1780’s! If it sounded good back then, why not today?

Two vocalists, Alyssa Giammaria and Leah Korkowski, recent graduates from Mohawk Music, will be sharing with you their love of songs from musicals. Their band includes: Ian Brown on piano, Jesse Martel on guitar, Aoife-Louise Doyle on backup vocals, Adam Inrig on drums, and Devon Savas on bass

Friday July 14, 2017 at 8 pm, $15/$10.
Jazz with The Carolyn Credico Quartet: Carolyn Credico vocals, Bob Shields guitar, Clark Johnston bass, Adam Fielding drums. The Quartet will perform a variety of beautiful jazz standards, latin and pop tunes.

Blue Moon Marquee, gypsy blues jazz
Saturday July 15, 2017, at 8 pm, $15/$10.
Gypsy-blues jazz duo Blue Moon Marquee (A.W. Cardinal guitar, vocals and Jasmine Colette upright bass, percussion, vocals) are swinging by Artword Artbar! This authentic duo writes and performs original compositions influenced by early blues, folk roots, swing, and ragtime. This year they are playing at seven Jazz festivals across Canada (Vancouver, Victoria, Saskatoon, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Kaslo). They have also been nominated for Indigenous Group of the year for the 2017 Western Canadian Music awards.
