Pond Observations

The Nathaniel Hughson Gallery Presents
Judy Major-Girardin Pond Observations
March 5th until April 2nd 2017,
Opening Reception March 5th, 2017 at 2:30 – 5:30 pm

Known for her printmaking and painting, Judy Major-Girardin is an artist who loves the beauty of nature and has a passion for sustainability. She has spent her career studying and teaching alternative and sustainable arts practices as a professor in painting and printmaking techniques at McMaster University in the School of Art, Drama and Music.

Pond Observations is inspired by a variety of explorations during residencies across Ontario, Quebec and the Northern United States, including recent trips to Georgian Bay and Lacawac Nature Sanctuary in Pennsylvania. In this series of painting and prints Major-Girardin explores and celebrates the vanishing, yet vitally important, wetland ecosystems in and around the Great Lakes. With the goal of making “a-painting-a-day” she provides the viewer a deeper understanding of the order and chaos that makes up the complex and ongoing lifecycle of these precious ecosystems.
Judy Major–Girardin is an artist based in Cambridge Ontario, and has taught at McMaster University in the School of the Arts for over 30 years. Judy Major–Girardin has exhibited her work in both Canada and the USA.
