Gallery4 - 1st Floor July Exhibition: Showdown! Making Modern Unions - Simon Orphana & Rob Kristofferson
Showdown! is a graphic history about the role played by Hamilton workers in helping solidify modern unionism in Canada and North America. It draws from archival materials and interviews with Hamilton workers to tell a peoples' history of the strike actions of the summer of 1946, and how the gains made helped shape post World War II society. The 110-page graphic history was published in September 2016 by Between the Lines, and was co-authored by Rob Kristofferson and Simon Orpana.
Simon Orpana, PhD, is an artist and scholar who uses graphic mediums, such as comic books, 'zines and film, to translate historical and cultural research into formats that can engage a wide public.
Matt McInnes is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design who uses drawing, sculpture, and traditional print media to visually document hybridized landscapes and buildings in transition, in the southern Ontario region.
