Find Paromita in The Crowd

Host, Megan Divecha, chats with Paromita Kar, a performer of the classical Indian Odissi dance, trained under Odissi maestro Guru Durgacharan Ranbir of Odisha, India, as well as a performer of dances of Rajasthan, and Central Asia and the Middle East. Paromita is the first to complete a PhD in Dance Studies in Canada (York University, 2014). She is the lead dancer and choreographer of Ensemble Topaz.

In this episode, you'll get a front-row seat to 2 performances, "Buxoro Gozal" and "Gulob". Buxoro Gozal is choreographed by Ustoz Kadyr Muminov (People's Artist of Uzbekistan), and features the music, "Buxoro Gozali", arranged via Ustoz Kadyr Muminov. Gulob is choreographed by Ustoz Salomat Raxmonova, and features music arranged by Ulmas Rustamov and Navo Music Group.

The piece, titled City Center, is a work by local artist Christopher Hall. It is from his series High On Hamilton, a collection of paintings celebrating the cherished landmarks in Hamilton. Christopher is an acclaimed artist in our community, active as a curator and also a celebrated tattoo artist.

Host, Megan Divecha, is joined by Vick Naresh, a Mumbai-born, self-taught contemporary artist who has earned national and internationally recognition! His ongoing body of work is an exploration in figurative abstraction that delves into metaphorical narratives tackling social contemporary & personal themes around post-colonial displacement, belonging & identity. Drawing from a background in graphic design, his works are digitally informed while engaging more classical painting tropes and techniques through their ultimate execution onto canvas. The two chat about key influences in Vick's practice and details of his upcoming exhibition titled "You are Many Faces" at The Assembly Gallery!

We are elated to feature artwork every episode, courtesy of the AGH's Arts Sales & Services. This month's episode features, "Growing and Supporting Each Other With Love" by Cody Houle.

Houle explores many styles in his practice and is drawn to abstract visualizations and animate florals. Cody Houle is a self taught Anishinaabe/French artist based in Brantford, Ontario. His resilience and deep connection to nature has grounded him as he navigates colonialism and informs his artistic practice. Through his work, Houle hopes to inspire other Indigenous folks, especially youth, and encourage them to create and express themselves because our stories matter.

Welcome Jaye Woods to The Arty Crowd Out Loud! Jaye is a dynamic presence in the Canadian rap scene, who artfully blends his roles as an emcee and social worker to craft a unique intersection of Hip-Hop and healing. Megan chats with Jaye about his lyrics, including influential songs like Spoon Theory, and pivots within his musical career. Plus, Jaye performs his new single, Sensitive. Hear it before it's released on Spotify and Apple Music!

That's not all -- Megan takes a walk through Social Space’s Holiday Event and speaks with a couple of the featured artists, including distinguished Hamilton artist, Gordon Leverton, and Morgan Jones. Vitek Wincza, Founder of Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts (HCA), speaks with us about the impact Arts for All has had on the Hamilton arts community. HCA is the charity partner for Social Space's Holiday event.

We are elated to feature artwork every episode, courtesy of the AGH's Arts Sales & Services. This month's episode features, "Whimsical Revolutions" by celebrated Hamilton artist, Amy Ferrari.

It is part of her abstract series that provoke concepts of joy, harmony, hope, and positive energy solely through the use of colour and line. Amy Ferrari was academically trained with a degree in product design, giving her a unique and solid foundation that stressed the fundamentals of design. In this piece, she notes the whimsical energy whisks away darker thoughts. Ferrari is on a mission is to create art that energizes an environment with creativity, positivity, and happiness, which is her style is self described "Visual Optimism".

Old Haunts no. 2 is by Melanie Cheung, a Hamilton based abstract artist. Her work delves into the elusive aspects of human experience, casting light on emotions that often defy explanation, subconscious thoughts and dreams. Utilizing fluid layers of paint and mixed media, Melanie's creative process merges thoughtful planning with intuitive expression, resulting in works that are both unassuming and impactful. Working with unique colour pairings and organic shapes as seen in this piece, Melanie seeks to capture the quiet narratives of our inner lives.
